2016 Music Reviews

Welcome to Music Arts Monthly Magazine
This is an online version that began back in real print in Houston Texas in 1985 by the late Douglas Groover: Editor, Publisher, Musician, Recording Engineer and a true descent person that I for one was very glad to have known. Go ask Cyndi Lauper about Doug as she considered him a true friend as well.

Here is a reprint we at Music Arts Monthly feel is something worth reading and it's quite important for all musicians who value their music.
It's from "Source" by Nationwide Disc

When a major artist makes a move that goes against the music industry's trend-from label deals to management changes to album release methods (a la Beyoncé last year)-people tend to sit up and take notice. When that move involves two of the biggest topics in the music industry-Taylor Swift and music streaming-you can bet that everyone is talking about it.
So, what did Taylor do that's so noteworthy? And why should it matter to you?

Detroit Underground

The Detroit Underground was established in 1994, and still has several of its original members. Over the years the band has earned the reputation for being a hard working, high energy, show band. The group features a very solid and funky rhythm section. These four seasoned players provide a solid foundation for the band's "smokin" horns.
Topping it off are California's best male and female lead vocalists. These two high-powered singers will light up the stage, and leave you singing their songs long after you leave the show.
This powerful combination of dedicated musicians gives the band the ability to crank out tunes from artists such as EARTH, WIND, and FIRE, CHAKA KAHN,and STEVIE WONDER. We also play great motown hits and heart-felt ballads.

Freddie Jackson

coming to

August 17th &18

Frederick Anthony "Freddie" Jackson is an American soul singer. Among his well-known hits are "Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)", "Have You Ever Loved Somebody", "Jam Tonight", "Do Me Again" and "You Are My Lady".
Born in Harlem, Jackson was trained as a gospel singer from an early age, singing at the White Rock Baptist Church of Harlem. There he met Paul Laurence, who would later become his record producer and songwriting partner. After completing school, Jackson joined Laurence's group LJE (Laurence Jones Ensemble) and played the New York nightclub scene. During the early 1980s, Jackson moved to the West Coast and sang lead with the band Mystic Merlin (with whom he released three studio albums), but soon returned to New York to work with Laurence at the Hush Productions company. He sang on demo recordings of Laurence's compositions, and also served as a backing singer for Melba Moore after she saw his nightclub act.

Lita Ford

coming to

September 7th

Lita Rossana Ford is an English-born American rock guitarist, actress, vocalist and songwriter who was the lead guitarist for the Runaways in the late 1970s before embarking on a solo career in the 1980s.
Lita Ford was born to an English father and an Italian mother in London, England. When she was in second grade, she moved with her family to the United States, eventually settling in the Long Beach, California.
In 1975, at age 16, Ford was recruited by recording impresario Kim Fowley to join the all-female rock band he was assembling called the Runaways. The band soon secured a recording contract and released their first album in 1976. The band garnered significant media attention and The Runaways became a successful recording and touring act during their late 1970s heyday. Ford's lead-guitar playing became an integral element of the band's sound until their eventual break-up in April 1979.
In 2016, Ford released the album Time Capsule — a collection of songs she discovered on old analog tapes from the 80s featuring recordings she'd made with Billy Sheehan, Gene Simmons, Bruce Kulick, Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, Dave Navarro, Rodger Carter and Jeff Scott Soto.

Paul Anka

Anka's two most recent albums - Rock Swings and now Classic Songs, My Way - ingeniously featured songs originally created by some of the biggest rock performers of the day - as well as other established artists across several genres. The twist: Paul Anka did the songs 'his way.' His goal: "taking great songs and rework them so they're natural for me."
Rock Swings went Top 10 in the UK, and was certified gold in the UK, France, and Canada, hit No. 2 on Billboard's Top Jazz Albums chart and went on to sell half a million units worldwide.
